Interventional Pain
Management

Introduction: Interventional Pain Management

Chronic pain can be debilitating, but you don’t have to live with it. Our Interventional Pain Management specialists focus on pinpointing the source of your pain and treating it with targeted, minimally invasive therapies. Unlike conventional pain management that may rely heavily on medications, interventional pain care uses advanced procedures to block pain signals, reduce inflammation, and help heal injuries. Our goal is to provide long-term relief and improve your daily function so you can get back to doing what you love, free from constant pain.

At One Tree Health, our pain management team takes a holistic approach – addressing both the physical and emotional impact of chronic pain. We listen to your story, thoroughly evaluate your condition, and customize a treatment plan that might include
injections, nerve treatments, or regenerative therapies. Your comfort and safety are our priority.

If you’ve been told to “just live with the pain,” come see us for a second opinion – there may be effective options available to help you feel better.

Conditions We Treat

Interventional Pain Management can help with a wide range of pain conditions, including but not limited to:

Back and Neck Pain

Pain caused by herniated discs, spinal stenosis, pinched nerves, degenerative disc disease, etc. Whether it’s low back pain radiating down your leg (sciatica) or neck pain causing arm tingling, we treat it.

Arthritis and Joint Pain

Chronic knee, shoulder, or hip pain due to osteoarthritis or other joint degeneration. We provide injections and other therapies for joint pain relief.

Nerve Pain (Neuropathic Pain)

Shooting or burning pains from conditions like sciatica, peripheral neuropathy, or complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). We can block or dull these pain signals with specialized techniques.

Headaches and Migraines

Certain severe headaches (like occipital headaches or cervicogenic headaches) can be relieved by nerve blocks or trigger point injections if traditional migraine treatments haven’t helped.

Spinal Compression Fractures

Pain from vertebral compression fractures (often due to osteoporosis or trauma). We offer kyphoplasty to stabilize fractures and relieve.

Facet Joint Pain

Arthritic pain in the small joints of the spine (facets) causing neck or back pain. This can be treated with medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablation if needed.

Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Pain

Low back or buttock pain from SI joint dysfunction, which can be helped with targeted injections.

Muscle or Soft Tissue Pain

Chronic muscle spasms, myofascial pain, tendonitis or bursitis that may benefit from injections (including trigger point injections or regenerative medicine like PRP).

If you’re suffering from a pain condition not listed here, contact us – chances are we can either treat it or guide you to the appropriate care. We understand how pain can affect every part of your life, and we are here to help you find relief.

Treatment Options & Procedures

Our Interventional Pain Management clinic offers a variety of advanced treatments. Depending on your diagnosis, your personalized plan may include one or more of the following:

OneTreeHealth

Epidural Steroid Injections (ESI)

An injection of powerful anti-inflammatory
medication into the epidural space of your spine to relieve nerve pain (for example, sciatica or a pinched nerve). By delivering steroid medication directlywhere the inflammation is, an ESI can significantly reduce pain and swelling around irritated. This is typically an outpatient procedure – you can go home the same day.

OneTreeHealth

Nerve Blocks

Precise injections of anesthetic (numbing medicine) sometimes combined with steroids near specific nerves or nerve clusters to “turn off” pain signals from that area. For example, a nerve root block for a spinal nerve, or an occipital nerve block for certain headaches. Nerve blocks can provide immediate relief and also help identify the exact source of pain.

OneTreeHealth

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

A treatment that uses radio wave-generated heat to disable pain-transmitting nerve fibersmayoclinic.orgmayoclinic.org. In an RFA procedure, we first numb the area, then insert a special needle electrode that heats the targeted nerve, stopping it from sending pain. RFA is often used for facet joint pain in the spine or chronic knee pain, and it can provide relief lasting 6–12 months or longer.

OneTreeHealth

Medial Branch Blocks and Facet Injections

These are specific types of nerve blocks targeting the tiny nerves that supply the facet joints in your spine. They are used both to diagnose facet joint pain and provide relief. If you get good short-term relief from a medial branch block, we may follow up with RFA for longer-term pain control.

OneTreeHealth

Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) Trials and Implants

A spinal cord stimulator (SCS) is an implanted device that sends mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord to block pain signals before they reach the brain. It’s like a “pain pacemaker” for chronic conditions like nerve pain or failed back surgery. We first perform a trial with temporary electrodes—if effective, a permanent device can be implanted. SCS can greatly improve pain and quality of life for the right candidates.

OneTreeHealth

Joint Injections

Corticosteroid (cortisone) injections target painful joints like the knee, shoulder, or hip to reduce inflammation. They often provide relief from arthritis or injury-related pain for months at a time. We use imaging guidance (such as ultrasound or X-ray) to ensure precise placement for maximum effectiveness.

OneTreeHealth

Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty

For painful vertebral compression fractures, our specialists perform kyphoplasty—a minimally invasive procedure where a balloon is inserted into the collapsed vertebra, then filled with medical cement to restore height and stability. Done through a tiny incision, it can significantly reduce pain and improve spine alignment. (Vertebroplasty is similar but without the balloon.)

OneTreeHealth

Regenerative Medicine (PRP Therapy):

In some cases, we use Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections to promote healing in tendons, ligaments, or joints. PRP is made from your own blood, concentrated with healing platelets, and injected into the injured area to stimulate tissue repair. It can help with chronic tendon injuries or arthritis for patients seeking a more natural treatment option.

Every procedure is performed with the utmost care for your comfort. We explain the process beforehand so you know what to expect. Most treatments are done with local anesthesia, and mild sedation can be used if needed. Your comfort and questions are always our priority throughout your care.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Interventional Pain Management

Will the injections or procedures hurt?
  • We take great care to keep you comfortable. Most patients find the procedures very tolerable. You’ll receive local anesthesia (numbing medicine) for injections, so you may feel pressure but typically not sharp pain. If you’re anxious or the procedure is more involved, mild sedation can be used. Our doctors and nurses will be with you every step of the way, explaining the process and helping minimize any discomfort.

How long will the relief last?
  • Relief varies by procedure and individual. Some patients experience several months of relief from a single steroid injection. Nerve ablations (RFA) can last 6–12 months or longer, until the nerve regenerates. Spinal cord stimulators provide ongoing relief as long as the device is active (you control it). Our goal is to achieve the longest relief possible, and certain treatments can be repeated if pain returns. We also use this relief period to focus on rehab or exercises to address the underlying issue.
Are these treatments safe?
  • Yes! When performed by trained specialists at One Tree Health, interventional pain procedures are safe and effective. We use image guidance to avoid sensitive structures, and all our physicians are board-certified in Pain Management with extensive experience. Complications are rare, and we’ll discuss any specific concerns with you in advance. Your health and safety are always in expert hands.
Do I need a referral or can I see a pain specialist directly?
  • You don’t need a referral to see our pain management specialists—you can call us directly to schedule an appointment. We also welcome referrals from other physicians. In either case, we’ll coordinate closely with your primary care doctor or other providers to ensure seamless, well-integrated care.
What if interventional treatments don’t help my pain?
  • Our approach is comprehensive, with the goal of finding meaningful, lasting relief. If one treatment doesn’t provide enough benefit, we’ll reassess and explore other options—whether it’s a different injection, physical therapy, medication adjustments, or, if truly necessary, a surgical referral. We won’t stop working with you. Your improvement is our ultimate goal.
